    01Overview

CO2 resurfacing, minus the two weeks

Fractional CO2 resurfacing delivers the resurfacing power of a CO2 laser with a fraction of the heat and recovery. It smooths fine lines, refines texture and pores, and evens tone by resurfacing the superficial skin in a quick in-office session. Most patients are back to normal in about a day, which makes it the resurfacing option for people who cannot disappear for two weeks. At Evidence MD it is performed by a trained laser provider under physician oversight, after careful skin-type screening.

    Straight Talk

Fractional CO2 resurfacing uses fractional laser energy to treat targeted areas of skin. It is used for fine lines, rough texture, scars, enlarged pores, uneven tone, and collagen remodeling. This treatment will do more to rejuvenate and smooth your skin than any other single treatment we offer (which is why we've all had it done). At Evidence MD, treatment is performed by a physician or a trained laser provider under physician oversight.

Ablative resurfacing carries a higher pigment-change risk on darker skin tones, so we screen carefully and will recommend a gentler option if it is not the safest fit for you.

This is a step up from facials and microneedling, with real but brief downtime: about a day of redness and a few days of light flaking. It is best booked in fall or winter, away from peak sun.

    02
    02How it works

    The treatment, in plain terms

A fractional CO2 laser emits energy absorbed by water in the skin. Rather than treating the whole surface, the beam is split into a grid of tiny microscopic columns, resurfacing thousands of precise micro-channels while leaving the surrounding tissue intact to speed healing. A low-downtime CO2 approach fires each pulse in an extremely short, high-energy burst, which resurfaces the targeted superficial tissue while minimizing the residual heat that drives redness and prolonged recovery in traditional CO2.

As the treated columns heal, the skin lays down fresh collagen and elastin and resurfaces smoother, tighter, and more even. The intact surrounding skin acts as a reservoir of healthy cells that closes the channels quickly, which is why recovery is roughly a day rather than weeks.

    05What to expect

    Your visit, start to finish

    01

    Consultation & screening

A provider confirms your skin type, screens for pigment-change risk, and sets the intensity to your downtime tolerance, then quotes the plan up front.

    02

    Numbing

Numbing cream is applied for about 30 minutes for comfort.

    03

    The treatment

Protective eyewear on, the laser delivers quick, warm passes across the area. About 30 to 45 minutes of treatment.

    04

    Heal & resurface

Skin looks flushed like a sunburn, settling within about a day, followed by a few days of light flaking as fresh skin surfaces. Smoother skin emerges over 1 to 2 weeks and keeps improving as collagen rebuilds.

    06Is this right for you?

A good fit, and when it isn't

    Likely a good fit

    • +You have mild to moderate texture concerns, fine lines, pores, or photoaging.
    • +You want resurfacing results but cannot take two weeks off.

    • +You can book in fall or winter and commit to sun avoidance and aftercare.

    We'd point you elsewhere

    07Common Questions

    Fractional resurfacing, answered

Most patients have about 24 hours of redness that looks and feels like a sunburn, then a few days of light flaking as new skin surfaces. That is far less than the one to two weeks traditional CO2 usually requires.
